Part memoir, part science, and part prolonged attempt to explain one spectacularly ill-advised animal, it follows Baxter through a lifetime of poor decisions, unnecessary enthusiasm, digestive catastrophes and encounters with objects no civilised creature should ever regard as lunch.
Along the way, it explores evolution, domestication, archaeology, scent, intelligence, emotion, disease detection and the ancient partnership between humans and dogs — with original illustrations throughout, because some of Baxter’s life choices really do have to be seen to be believed.
